The Advent of spring

Turning on time in its pre-ordained path

The earth in the tilting northern hemisphere

Begins to approach its lover, the sun.

The approach is not remarkable

Except for we who have the gift of awe.

Of wondering  at the waxing and waning of our moon, and

At the ever so gradual heating and cooling

Of the earth beneath our feet.

Now comes spring

With its promise of flowers and lengthening days,

Clear air, cool upon the pillow,

Nights filled with cricket-calls,

Days occupied by purple martins.

This consciousness prays,

Thanking the majestic creator

Of this turning earth, sun, moon, and

Blessed season.
