The Leafing Out of Pecan Trees

 
     Pecan trees are the last to come out in leaf.

Be patient.  Wait.  It will happen. 

Pecan trees, like all trees, like all plants,

Like some thinkers and saintly mystics,

Roughly match their life in the earth

To their life above ground. 

As the earth tilts and turns

The root system grows to match

The ongoing singularities of creation.

The pecan trees will show their leaves

Suddenly one morning.

Two days after a heavy rain.

Green leaves will begin to take form, and

In two days: see patient waiting  rewarded.
