Moore, Oklahoma

What more elegant argument for an indifferent God

Could the agnostic give than this swath of crushed timbers

Populated with twisted and tangled wood and steel

Wires and bathtubs, heirlooms and lives.

The tornado came, struck, departed.

The next morning the sun rose and it was a beautiful May day.

The beauty of the day mocked

Those who would argue against the indifference thesis.

With a certainty the swath of timbers

Will be removed.

The earth will be renewed.

Moore, Oklahoma, will wait patiently

For the weather to change.
