Fathers’ Day

Every spring: Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day—

Regular as clockwork, regular as the xes on the calendar--

These days come, pushed along the regular holiday chain,

Moving across our families’ lives, marking our aging.

On Sunday, Fathers’ Day, 2013, the sun was bright,

The food abundant and tasty.

Gifts were presented and accepted.

There were dragonflies, flowers, wasps to photograph.

The children and grandchildren splashed in the pool.

The day wore on, pleasant and filled with consequence.

In the late afternoon we left, celebration at an end.

We came home, readying for another year.
