Waiting for a New Moon

I’m waiting for a new moon.

I am waiting to take its photograph—

Literally, to take the image of its face

With the wonderful device that I claim:

An aid to my eye,

Which will let me see at a distance,

Even to the canals and oceans of the moon.

And I also claim a camera,

A little room equipped to trap the light

And hold it for me within its walls.

The moon is now on vacation,

Refreshing its single face in private,

Soon to return, first a slight hint of beauty,

Then waxing into a fulsome pocked face

Ready for my telescope and camera,

Ready to move me to new realms of wonder.
