A Nun’s Death

Big-boned and strong,

She came from a large, rich family.

In the complex times of the 1930’s

She decided to join the sisters,

To pray, to think, to work for the poor.

And she did.

All her long life she prayed, thought, worked,

Obeying while questioning,

Giving while graciously receiving,

Teaching, bending her will

To follow the arcing will of her God.

Now she will be lie in the monk-made coffin,

Resting, while I and many others

Will sit there, listening,

Celebrating her good life.
