The Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid meteor shower is happening now,

Giant, huge beings, bright and neuter,

Coursing in the sky, ignoring my day and night,

Rushing on the track of their celestial destiny. 

Last night—middle of the night—the sky was covered,

A milky lid over the summer sky’s brilliance, but

The meteor shower WAS. 

O the wonder of it all!

The meteor shower IS even now,

Even in this bright, warm August morning.

Its grandeur is on a scale beyond my ken.

Arcing in an arc known only to the Great Sustainer,

Moving at a speed calculated to overwhelm with awe.
