On the After Life

Yes, there is an afterlife, but

We are living it now.

In this very here and now,

With its aging and coughing and lack of peace.

Tomorrow is our afterlife,

For today is dead, gone, ended.

And the same applies to the time you are using in reading this line--

The line is gone, but, yet, it is in the here and now.

But you cannot call back your first reading of the line

Any more than you can call back the turned leaf you saw yesterday.

Yes, there is an afterlife, but

We are living it now.
