The Buffalo River

A fine river,

Its water cold and flowing,

Flowing in north Arkansas,

Suited by creation to the hill country.

Suited to trout, perch, minnow, bass.

The Buffalo River cuts through varied terrain,

Snaking its way into gorges,

Passing through woods,

Willows, oak, elm, hackberry.

Spreading here,

It’s clear water magnifying sandy bottoms,

Narrowing here,

Showing, when it is low,

Blonde sand patches on its shore.

It is gracious resplendent

In the Arkansas sun.
