Catholic Perspectives on Separation of Church and State
Spring, 2008

January 14, 21,28, and February 11,18, and 25

In this seminar we will survey major issues relating to church-state relations involving the Catholic church in the United States.  Among topics to be covered will be: the constitutional and political context of church-state relations, church teachings on Catholic political participation, Catholic officeholders and moral issues, and federal and state subsidies and tax exemptions for church-related institutions and activities.  Seminar leaders will be Professors Jim Bolner, Sr., and Greg Hussey.  All meetings will be held in the library in the parish administration building of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2105 Stuart Avenue.  There is no fee and pre-registration is not required.  A tentative outline and list of resources can be found at: http://bodoc.net/cathpers/churchstate08/outline.htm.  For more information about the seminar please contact Jim Bolner, Sr., at 766.5987 or jimbolnersr@cox.net.
