A Caveat Concerning Pear Trees
Do not plant pear trees.
They will take root and then,
Come spring they will bloom, and
Their blooms will seduce you with their great beauty,
Prompting you forever to remember them—
That is, as you age and long for beauty,
To strive to piece together that singular experience--
Of seeing the blossoms,
With their multi-faceted complex system of color and shape,
Of stamen and pistil--
Leading you for the moment
To wish that you were a bee or a wasp or a ladybug, or
Any other creature worthy of communing with such beauty.
