A Day of
Winter Rain
Rain, he said, is of God and washes away that
which is unclean,
Reminding us that God washes away our sins,
Reminding us that we depend on God for all.
Another name for rain, he said, is grace,
Falling upon us at God’s will.
Rain does not come when we will it but when God
wills it.
Rain does not cease its washing when we will it
but when God wills it.
Winter rain, he said, pleasures the earth upon
which it falls, and
Blesses the earth with its glistening and watery
being.
Earth accepts the rain as a lover accepts a
lover.
Rain, he said, will work upon the earth, and
Earth will graciously apply rain to keep ready
the earth
For the flowers and grace of spring.
