The Return of the Sun

After days of cloud and rain,

Our great star returns,
Its sister earth and brother wind

Having shifted cloud and rain.

It now resumes its winter work

Of lighting, of stirring in the deepest buds

The hope of spring.

The great star turns according to

It’s own ordained rule,

Burning all the while,

Expending its sacred fuel--

A constant lover—

Not only upon this revolving earth, but

Upon earth’s cousin planets,

Each receiving the sacred measured light,

Each moving in its own ordained path,

Each observing its own ordained rule.

Our great star reveres us, respects us,

Keeping its burning fire, its nourishing light,

Observing the seasons that time has fixed.
