Orchid Time

We have four orchids.

They bloom, but their blooming  and their lives

Warrant comment and observation.

Orchids live and bloom in their own time,

A time independent from the time we know, and

Independent of the time ruling the universe,

Independent of the general laws of chronology, and

Independent of the rhythm and seasons of life.

The time of the orchids is closer to geological time,

Stretching seconds into minutes and minutes into hours, and

Hours into days.

Their blooms take up immense time to bloom, and

Their blooms live on and on,

Lasting long orchid months

While I and the other creatures

Submit to the time ruling the universe.
