True Religion

True religion is a challenge.

We are good, but easily seduced,

Easily misled by cheap wine,

Easily unzipped, unbuttoned,

Easily accepting of the invitation to sin.

But we remain good—good to the core, and

Deep in our hearts and minds

We know what true religion is:

A bond between my consciousness and the Creator’s.

The challenge is to turn,

To make the turn toward the good,

To yield to the good,

To abstain from cheap wine,

To stay zipped and buttoned,

To decline the invitation to sin.
