The Theory of
Two Minds
Reflecting,
vaguely theories from Toledo, Spain,
He spoke quite
clearly:
There are two
minds, he said:
One addressing
science of numbers and stars,
One addressing
science of story, faith.
He said little
else.
He stood upon
his declaration
As a hero stands
upon the barricade:
Not yielding,
not explaining.
Each science has
its claim, he said:
Each must be
respected and obeyed,
Followed,
accepted.
And
There can be no
conflict, no clash
Between the two.
Number and star,
Miracle and
mystery:
Both living,
throbbing in the same brain,
Two minds in
constant and uneasy tension.
