The Problem
This is the
problem:
We do not want
this to end.
Yet, we know
that it will, indeed, end.
We know that
there will be the scraping
Of the chairs in
the room for the dying,
That we will want
with unusual ferocity
To return once
more to the field of red poppies
In Provence,
That there will
the lies told with love
About what will
happen next.
We know that
there will be mentions in the paper,
About how we
were good at living life.
We know that
there will be a mass
And perhaps
speeches
In which
speakers will seek comfort.
So, rephrasing
the statement of the problem:
We do not want
this to end,
Yet, we know
that it will, indeed, end.
