The Feast of the
Assumption: A Convert’s View
It was the
hardest tenet to accept,
This belief that
a woman-in-the-flesh,
Body and soul,
fully clothed, in a blue veil
Would be lifted
up ever so slowly
Only to vanish
in the gossamer clouds
To take up
residence in heaven.
It was the
hardest.
She could accept
the virgin birth,
She could accept
life after death,
She could accept
the Holy Trinity,
She could accept
the Resurrection—
She could accept
all these, but
The assumption
of the woman into heaven
She could not
accept.
