The War in Syria

And in Palestine, and in Pakistan, and in Yemen—

Indeed, there is war all over the earth.  

The script is the Old Testament.

The script is the Koran.

God smiling down upon his Chosen People

To slaughter the Amorites,

God working miracles on behalf of Israel.

Articulate tribal shamans

Enlisting God in their cause. 

Mohammed hearing Gabriel speak:

Do not kill, except when it is justified.

Weary of war, weary of ersatz peace,

Weary of the tension of councils, of diplomacy,

Weary of news of the war in Syria,

I turn to the fine feathers of the tricolored heron

For my comfort and my peace.
