Hurricane Season

It is hurricane season, 2013, and

Thus far—we’ve come to September 4—

No hurricane.

Old women say it’s their prayers answered,

Others will say that it’s luck,

Others that there is still time.

If hurricanes do come,

We will try to tame them, trick them,

By giving them a name like ours.

Bertha, Ben, Maggie, Alice,

Celine, George, Allen,

But not Betsy, not Katrina.
