The Symphony
From where we
sit we have the best view of everything.
Imagine a
ballpark.
We sit way up in
the stands well to the left of home plate.
We can see it
all—
The orchestra,
black-suited, rehearsed, solemn.
The crowd to our
right,
Mixed by gender
and age.
Many frail ones
who are here to be counted
Among the
living.
Comes the
businessman, president of the symphony shop.
Compliments and
applause for the rich corporate sponsor.
Speech by
corporate executive praising all.
Then the first
violin, instruments tuned,
Then the
maestro,
Who grasps the
players’ attention,
Waves his baton,
and
The music
begins.
