Sunset, I-12 West

Heading west on I-12

The golden evening opens before us,

Unfolding like an evening garment,

Displaying in a wide canopy of color,

Of hues unknown before now,

Roseate tinged with gold, and

Orange laced with deep purpose, and

Blue beyond the hem of Mary’s scarf.

These are no longer clouds

Merely blessed by a setting sun.

These are portents of great moment,

Telling, announcing the coming of night.
