Understanding Time

Time is the main thing,

Because it is the frame and support of consciousness,

Of mind, and of that wondrous electric chemistry

Which makes it possible for me to see

The neighbor’s flag wave,

The neighbor’s purple martins swoop,

The neighbor’s angel trumpet plant bloom,

The winter moon rise in majesty

Above the neighbor’s place.

Without time,

All this will cease:

Flag, bird, flower, moon—

All.
