VERDIE BOLNER HAYDEL
ObituaryVerdie Bolner Haydel, 90, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 19 at her home in Franklin surrounded by her family. She had celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday, May 17. She was a native of Plauchéville, a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in that town, and a resident of Franklin since 1939. In 1943 she married Sitges P. Haydel of Franklin. She was known for her hospitality and generosity and enjoyed a wide circle of friends.
After moving to Franklin, she was employed at Slim’s Café on Willow Street. For a number of years she was an employee of her cousin, Lee C. Firmin, as a clerk and manager of Lee’s Grocery on Willow Street. Later she worked for her brother-in-law, Edsel Haydel at Haydel’s Cleaners. For many years she served as seamstress, specializing in alterations. She was an accomplished quilter and an active member of a quilting circle. She was a devout Roman Catholic and an active member of the Ladies Altar Society, the King’s Daughters organization and a faithful presence at the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. She and her husband were long-time supporters of St. John and Hanson Memorial schools. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Hardy and his wife, Donna Naquin Haydel, and Crandall Haydel and his wife, Connie Bourque Haydel, all of Franklin; two daughters, Penny Stanford and her husband, Herman, both of Sunset, and Mary Lee Comeaux and her husband, Dale, both of Lafayette; grandchildren, Tanya Barrilleaux, Scott and Marlene Haydel, Rod Paul Landen, Dr. Jill Gibson, Andy Stanford and Amy S. Pitre and Amanda S. Prugh, Christine Comeaux Strentz, Torrey and Kayla Haydel; nine great grandchildren; one brother, James Bolner, Sr. of Baton Rouge; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sitges P. Haydel; her parents, Albert and Almeda Firmin Bolner; one sister, Zulie Bolner Luke; and six brothers, Kelsie, Henry, Ollie, Daniel, Richard and Dale Bolner.
Visitations will be held at Ibert’s Mortuary on Wednesday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a Rosary being prayed at 12:15 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21, at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Assumption, with Fr. Billy Ruskoski officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph Academy, 3406 Highway 107, Plaucheville, La. 71362.
Pallbearers are Scott Haydel, Brad Breaux, Cody Martin, Todd Gibson, Tim Hebert, Al Luke and Torrey Haydel.
The family would like to thank the following caregivers: Linda Rineholt, Peggy Tabor, Judy Alexander and the staff of Journey Hospice, especially Kim and Raquel. The family is grateful to Dr. Brent Allain and Cathy Lamaison for their dedication and attention during Verdie’s illness.
